Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Training and Toolkit: The Mental Health Practitioner’s Guide to ESA Evaluation and Accommodation Letters

Context

The mental health industry is rife with misunderstandings about the legal and ethical implications and risks of writing emotional support animal accommodation letters. Though there exist several courses on the topic, there was need for an attorney-reviewed course that combines training on dos and donts, an updated review of the professional literature, a discussion of best practices based on federal and state regulations, recommendations on how to protect one’s professional license, an attorney-reviewed letter template, customizable done-for-you client-facing documents and forms, interactive assessments with real-world clinicial scenarios, and supplemental live instructor support.

Challenge

The training and toolkit needed to provide learners with high value, convenience, feedback, and lifetime access. Learning materials needed to be accessible to clients on a variety of devices and accessible to those with disabilities who use assistive technologies.

Solution

A thorough, engaging, on-demand training designed to be self-paced, interactive, and accessible, with a robust, editable toolkit and 1:1 live support.

Result

A six-hour, web-based, value-packed, attorney-reviewed training for mental health professionals on how to write emotional support animal letters legally and ethically that includes a comprehensive toolkit so practitioners can start providing this service immediately.

Screening for Fit

Context

The Michelle Robin Gould Corporation provides teletherapy to counseling clients who are located in the state of Florida at the time of service. Since teletherapy is delivered entirely online, it is important for clients to know if teletherapy is the right fit for them.

Challenge

Potential therapy clients may be unfamiliar with the technologies and challenges inherent in receiving online therapy. Support materials must be accessible to clients on a variety of devices and should be accessible to those with disabilities who use assistive technologies.

Solution

A microlearning e-course that outlines the features of teletherapy, including technologies, safety precautions, risks, rule-outs, and additional information.

Result

A brief screening tool that can be self-administered at will presents an engaging and informative opportunity to aid potential clients in deciding whether to proceed with teletherapy.
